How did you develop your recipes?
We developed Smalls in partnership with PhDs in animal nutrition to make sure that our recipes we’re as healthy and nutritious as possible. Each recipe went through rounds of revisions until we landed on the perfect food for cats.
How do you cook Smalls recipes?
We cook Smalls just like you cook at home, except our equipment is a little bigger. We cook the meat on a stove, we chop the meat and veggies and we blend it all together in an mixer.
Where is Smalls made?
Smalls is made in a regulated human food facility called Foodworks in Brooklyn, New York. We cook it ourselves with a small team of chefs.

Where do you get your ingredients?
Smalls meat ingredients are sourced from London Meat Co. based in the Meatpacking district in New York (we didn’t think meatpacking still had meat either). Our vegetables come from the grocery store. As we scale up we’ll be buying our vegetables from local farms. If you have any suggestions, or have a farm yourself, drop us a line.

What if my cat gets sick after eating the food?
If you think something serious is going on contact your vet immediately. If you’re just wondering about the off bowel movement keep in mind that switching diets can be tough. What if my cat doesn't like it?
Don’t be alarmed if your cat doesn’t go for Smalls right away. Cats take time to adjust to new food and can take some convincing to start eating healthy! We’re here to help. You can text us at (503)-487-4303 any time and we’ll get back to you with some tips on switching! We also have a switching guide, which can be found here.
What if my cat is on a prescription diet?
If your cat is on a prescription diet shoot us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll talk it through. In general, our recipes are higher quality than prescription diets, but they don’t specifically resolve symptoms your cat may be dealing with.
What if my cat has a health condition?
If your cat has a health condition it’s important to be cautious about switching food. Shoot us an email at email@example.com and we’ll talk it through.
Is your food Raw?
No, our food is gently cooked, just like you would cook a chopped chicken salad at home...except for cats!
How often do you ship Smalls?
You can receive Smalls at a frequency that makes sense for you. We ship every Tuesday and depending on how many cats you have we can deliver anywhere from every week to once every 6 weeks. Since shipping is quite expensive if you choose a less frequent shipping frequency, we’ll pass on the savings to you. If you have a big enough freezer there’s no reason not to stock up and save!
What if I need to pause or cancel my shipments?
You can pause or cancel your shipments at anytime. The easiest way to do this is by shooting us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org or texting us at (503)-487-4303. In the future you’ll be able to manage your subscription directly on the website for now you have to talk to us!
How long will Smalls stay fresh after it’s delivered?
Smalls can be kept for up to 3 months in the freezer (and probably longer but we haven’t tested it yet and don’t want to get your hopes up). Once its thawed the food will stay fresh for 4-5 days (again probably longer, but hold tight until we do lab testing). When in doubt, smell the food and throw it out if you aren’t sure. We recommend only keeping 3 days of food in the fridge at a time and keeping the rest in the freezer.

What do I do with the packaging?
We’re animal lovers, so taking care of our planet is important to us. Our packaging is all recyclable. The box itself can be recycled just as you would with any other cardboard box. The insulation in this box is made from corn and is biodegradable. To dispose of it, take off the plastic wrapping, put it in your sink, and run water over it. Watch it disappear! We chose dry ice to keep the package cool in transit because it’s far less resource-intensive than ice packs
What if I’m out of town or traveling?
Just let us know by emailing us at email@example.com or texting us at (503)-487-4303. We’ll make all the necessary changes no problem! Coming soon: we’ll roll out functionality for you to handle this on your own
What if my food doesn’t arrive frozen?
Smalls doesn’t need to arrive frozen to be safe. As long as it arrives below 42 degrees fahrenheit the food is safe. If the food is warm when you get it, let us know and we’ll send you a replacement!
How do shipments work?
Once you sign up we’ll ship you a box with frozen packs of food. Once you receive delivery you’ll want to take it out of the box and put most of those packs in the freezer. Each pack is about three days worth of food so you’ll want to start defrosting a pack for each of your cats once it arrives.
